Concluding Friday, I shared a quick lilliputian update on our latest toy storage conundrum: How to Organize Tiny Toys! I showed you these sweetness see-through numberless we're at present using and loving, with the promise that I'd follow upwardly with the detailed tutorial so you could make some yourself! Well, I'chiliad dorsum today to evangelize on my promise!

I whipped up four of these super cute bags, and I would accept fabricated more than but I ran out of the clear vinyl. Each 1 took near 20 minutes and is made from half of a fat quarter (aye – that ways from i fat quarter, you lot can go 2 bags!!!!) They measure most 9.5″ square" and close with a Velcro acme. Although they don't take a boxed out bottom (which y'all could easily add together!), they can prevarication flat or stand up (depending on the contents inside!). I had these scrap fat quarters on hand (thank you, Large Sister!) – they were and then fun and fresh and I knew they'd make the perfect addition to our other playroom storage.

This actually is a peachy project to utilise upwards some scraps or fat quarters! You lot tin can fifty-fifty mix and match unlike fabrics on each bag for a patchwork wait!

For i purse, you will need:

  • Cotton fabric (11 10 18″)
  • Clear, medium-estimate vinyl  (11 ten 8″)
  • Velcro (~12″)
  • Coordinating thread
  • Basic sewing supplies: Cutting mat, ruler, rotary cutter, scissors, sewing machine, iron, directly pins

I started with a fat quarter and cut information technology in half width-wise, and then I had 2 cuts, each measuring 18 x 11″:

Cut the 18 x 11″ rectangle into three sections (shown below):

Side by side, cutting articulate, mid-gauge vinyl into two 4 x eleven″ strips.

(Annotation: y'all need ii strips of vinyl for each bag!)

Small Toy Storage Bags-007

Start by placing one of the 5 x 11″ strips right-side-upward and laying a vinyl strip on pinnacle, lining upwardly the top, lesser, and right-side edges. Stitch down the length of the strips with a 1/two″ seam allowance (below, pinnacle). Once sewn, flip the vinyl open so that the material is on the left and the vinyl is on the right (all correct sides facing up). Top stitch close to the seam down the length of the fabric (below, bottom left). This will not just requite a cleaner appearance, but will strength the beefy vinyl to lay flat (below, bottom correct).

Echo with the other v 10 11″ fabric rectangle and the other strip of vinyl. You should and so be left with the eight x xi″ cotton rectangle and two cotton wool+vinyl rectangles.

Side by side, attach the cotton+vinyl rectangles to the larger rectangle along the long edges, also top stitching at each seam. When all sewn together, you should end upward with one long rectangle that goes cotton => vinyl => cotton => vinyl => cotton.

With right-sides-together, fold the rectangle in one-half width-wise and pin forth the sides. Stitch down each side with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Trim out the corners and flip right-side-out! The vinyl seam tin can be stiff – really printing it flat (with your fingers!) to make the bag lie apartment-ish.

To terminate out the raw edges at the elevation, fold the bag border toward the inside of the bag 1/2″ and printing. And then fold over once again so that the pressed edge meets the vinyl seam near 2″ downwards. Pin in place around the perimeter of the bag.

Acme stitch around the perimeter of the bag (along your showtime stitch line) to secure the top fold in identify. Make sure y'all catch the fold on the inside of the bag in your stitching all the way around. This tin can be a bit tricky thanks to the stiffness of the vinyl (don't gauge my kleptomaniacal sewing lines – it definitely got easier the more I made!)

I then flipped my pocketbook back inside out (which actually wasn't necessary just how I snapped the picture show) and added Velcro on either side. Brand certain your Velcro is centered on the fold on both sides of the bag. I so secured the Velcro with my sewing car. (Notation: I found information technology helpful to leave an inch or so of space between the end of the Velcro and the side seam of the bag. Velcro tin can be pretty tight, and then to open the bags, it's helpful to exist able to jerk your fingers in there!)

These actually were fun, quick, and simple to make! Now we take great petty numberless that tin agree all sorts of itty bitty toys and games.

Small Toy Storage Bags-015

They are perfect for the playroom, but would also exist groovy for toting games, toys, or even snacks in the diaper bag, purse, or a child's backpack!

I really debated if the see-through pouch was necessary, merely after a week or so of using these, I am so glad I included it. Information technology makes finding merely the right game or toy a cinch; and information technology helps Henry put things back in the right spots when nosotros're done playing! You tin see how we employ and store these bags in my Tiny Toy organizing post here!
